It started with mud pies.

When I was a kid, I used to sit with my grandpa and make them. Hands in the dirt, completely absorbed in the moment, no pressure to get it right, no idea it would matter later. Just the simple joy of making something out of nothing.

That feeling never left.

It followed me into everything I’ve done since.

I grew up in a small blue collar town the west coast of Canada. I left for city life like many do, and spent years moving fast building, chasing, doing all the things you’re supposed to do when you’re “becoming someone.”

And then I came home.

Not just geographically, but in the way I live.

Life slowed down in a way I didn’t realize I was missing.

Mornings don't begin with alarm clocks. There’s a turntable playing instead of Spotify on shuffle. Coffee in a handmade mug best enjoyed on my porch. My old truck, wandering antique shops, strolling along just noticing light, shape, colour, and the quiet details that used to blur past me.

That slower rhythm changed how I make things.

I work in fused glass from my studio in Port Alberni, in a heritage home not far from the water. It’s where glass gets cut, layered, fired, and transformed. Sometimes into what I planned, often into something better than I expected.

There’s a mix in it that I love: control and unpredictability, intention and surprise, patience and heat.

Alongside my own fused glass work, I design molds for other glass artists and teach both local and online classes for people who want to explore what they can create with their own hands.

But the work has never really been just about glass.

It’s about that same feeling I had as a kid in the dirt with my grandpa.

Making something that didn’t exist a moment before.

And watching someone else realize they can do it too.

That’s the part I keep coming back to.

If you find yourself in town pop by the studio and say hello.
